How To Test A Perfume and How To Apply A Perfume

Every fourth second a bottle of a perfume is being sold all over the world. We all have heard of Chanel No. 5.. the most famous perfume in the world and we all are using a perfume every day. 96 percent of women and 73 percent of the men are applying a perfume every morning before going to work or going to an evening party. Perfumes have been used even in the past centuries and have been highly valued in every culture.

The main difference between an Eau de Perfume, Eau de Toilette and Eau de Cologne is the concentration of essential oils and the amount of the alcohol.

Eau de Perfume contains around 15 /20 % essential oils. Eau de Perfume has the highest concentration of fragrant components. It is very intensive and evaporates slowly, but unfortunately is very expensive.

Eau de Toilette has 8/ 17 % essential oils. It is appropriate for daytime use and is lighter than the perfume.

Eau de Cologne, known also as perfume water is weaker and has around 5% essential oils.

Eau de Fraiche has between 1/ 3% essential oils and is the lightest dilution of fragrance.
All perfumes are made from denatured ethyl alcohol and essential oils. Common plant products containing in a perfume are: bergamot, cardamom, cedar wood, gardenia, lavender, lemon, iris, jasmine, orange, raspberry, sage, rose, moss, sandalwood, vanilla, violet, eucalyptus, anise, kiwi, apple, bay leaf.

HOW TO CHOOSE A PERFUME :

Always choose a perfume with care depending in the occasion and on the season. Fresh, fruity and floral fragrances are appropriate for the hot summer months, while the spicier, warmer scents are appropriate for the colder months. During the day wear a subtle scent. Go in for something stronger for an evening party.

Choose a fragrance thats subtle, pleasant and clean. Never wear something that is too heavy and sensual during the summer and spring months. The most important thing is that a perfume must suit your personality.

Remember:

  • Fruit and floral scents are calming, fresh and sensual
  • Spicier fragrances arouse sexual feelings and act as an aphrodisiac.

HOW TO TEST A PERFUME :

One important rule when testing a new perfume is that you shouldn't be wearing any perfume or scented body lotion. Make sure your skin is clean and that the air in the room is fresh. The best ways to test a new fragrance is applying it in your wrist or spray it on a perfume test blotter.

Apply the perfume and wait for a few minutes before you smell it. A fragrance always smells different several minutes after you apply it. Hold the test blotter away from your nose / about an inch/ when smelling. I recommend you not to test more than four perfumes at once because you will become confused. Instead ask for a perfume sample and wear it for a day or two to see if you really like it.

Remember a fragrance smells different on different people because of the skins secretions. If you like the scent of your friends perfume that doesn't mean that it will smell the same way on your skin.

Leave the perfume for about an hour to develop its true scent and then smell it. During that hour snuffle the perfumed spot on your skin from time to time.

HOW TO APPLY A PERFUME PROPERLY :

A perfume should always be applied on a clean skin. Consider the amount of a perfume you are going to apply depending on its concentration. A perfume, Eau de Toilette or perfume water should be applied to pulse points, these include: crock of elbows, back of knees, neck, behind the ears and on the wrist. This way the fragrance will sustain for a longer period. If you are going to apply Eau de Toilette you can spray it in the air and walk through it .. the fragrance will cover all your body.

You had better apply a perfume to your skin before getting dressed. This way it will come through your clothes subtly and as you undress the scent will intensify.

A huge mistake that many women and men do is applying a perfume directly on the clothes. Most of the perfumes leave an oily stain on the clothes and the scent doesn't last for longer. So avoid doing it.

Remember : The best areas to apply a perfume are those areas of the body that give off heat and keep scent exuding - inside the wrist, the bend of the elbow, the back of knees, around the navel.

USEFUL TIPS:

  • Always keep the perfume bottles away from direct heat and sunlight.
  • You can put a few drops of perfume onto an oil burner to scent your room.
  • Remember: the strength of a perfume depends on the concentration of perfume over alcohol it contains.
  • For best result use products that complement a fragrance - shower gel, body lotion, body powder that give a longer lasting fragrance all over the body.
